GET INVOLVED

Autism Support Group

Through Interlock, SCEC participates in Autism Support Group. We go to WestView Elementary School once a month and watch over students while their parents attend meetings. This gives us the opportunity to interact with children with disabilities outside of the normal school setting.

Erskine Green Training Insitute

Throughout the semester, we work with Erskine Green Training Institute, which is a vocational opportunity for college age students with disabilities to train to work in a hotel, restaurant, or a store. We provide activities for them to get some of the college experience, such as movie nights and going out to dinner. This organization provides us the chance to get to know the students and have fun.

Beyond I CAN

SCEC also works with Beyond I CAN also known as C.A.R.S., which “is a program dedicated to enriching the lives of individuals who have disabilities and gifts through the experience of running their own business, from artistic design and production to marketing and sales.” This year we are planning on volunteering more at the store to help out in anyway we can along with hosting various events. This organization provides us a chance to give back to the community in numerous ways.

Therapeutic Riding

During the fall and spring, SCEC volunteers with East Central Indiana Therapeutic Riding Inc., which occurs every Wednesday. We help the therapeutic instructors in anyway they ask while making sure the children are safe. This organization provides us the opportunity to help the children improve upon their various skills, including muscular strength, balance, and rhythm.

Special Olympics

With the Special Olympics, we help high school students bowl. We go to Clancy's Village Bowl every Monday where we help set up ramps, assist with throwing the balls, and socialize with them. This organization provides us the opportunity to socialize with the students while having fun.

Panels

Every month, SCEC invites teachers, principals, parents, and anyone else who has experience and can provide us with information on a specific topic to attend a panel. The panels are very informal and we encourage the audience to ask questions pertaining to the topic. Panels give us the opportunity to learn from other educators' experiences.

The Prism Project

Prism Project is a performing arts program for students with special needs. Members of SCEC have a chance to earn points by devoting time to volunteering during January-March for Prism Project.

Other Opportunities

We offer many other activities such as a Puppy Picnic, awards ceremonies, and t-shirt tie dying. Stay connected by following us on social media to get updates on upcoming events!
